Carbohydrates are the body's primary source of energy, fueling daily activities and essential bodily functions. When consumed, carbohydrates are broken down into glucose, which is used by cells for immediate energy or stored for later use. Carbohydrates are classified into simple carbs (found in sugar, fruits, and processed foods) and complex carbs (found in whole grains, vegetables, and legumes). Complex carbohydrates are healthier because they provide sustained energy, fiber, and essential nutrients.
