Doly Begum, a Bangladeshi-Canadian politician, was re-elected for a third term as the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Scarborough Southwest in the Ontario provincial election held on 27 February 2025. She secured 42.9% of the vote, reinforcing her position as a prominent figure in Ontario's political landscape.
Born in Moulvibazar, Bangladesh, Begum immigrated to Canada during her childhood and has since become a trailblazer for the Bangladeshi-Canadian community. In 2018, at the age of 29, she made history by becoming the first Canadian of Bangladeshi origin elected to a provincial or federal legislative body in Canada.
Throughout her tenure, Begum has held various roles, including Deputy Leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party (NDP) and Critic for Immigration Services and International Credentials. Her consistent electoral success and dedication to public service continue to inspire many, particularly within the Bangladeshi-Canadian community.
