A rickshaw puller is one who pulls rickshaw to take passengers to their destinations. He is, in fact, one kind of day laborer. In reality, finding no other means, a man pulls rickshaw to earn his livelihood. He usually lives in a slum with his family in a very unhygienic condition. Most often a rickshaw puller does not have his own rickshaw. He hires a rickshaw from a rickshaw owner on daily basis. Pulling rickshaw is no doubt, a toilsome work. Even he has to pull rickshaw in rain or sun. Because, if he stops pulling rickshaw someday, he along with his family members has to starve. Moreover, sometimes he receives misbehavior from the passengers. But he doesn't do any misconduct with them because it provides his living. Usually a rickshaw puller earns Tk. 400 to 500 a day from which he has to pay the rent of the rickshaw. If he earns too little for some reasons or other, he doesn't have anything left after paying the rent. If his rickshaw breaks down for having an accident on roads, his miseries beggar description. On a whole, a rickshaw puller leads his daily life in great hardship.
