A book fair is a kind of fair where various types of books are displayed for sale. Book fair is very popular in our country. It is now held in every city and town. People go to the fair to find their desired books. In Bangladesh, a book fair is arranged on the occasion of 21 February, 16 December, 26 March and Bangla New Year. The fair is held in an open place or in auditorium or in a big hall-room. In our country, the largest book fair is held on the premises of Bangla Academy on the occasion of 21 February. All kinds of books such as fiction, drama, poetry, novel, biography, translation, children literature, story books etc, are usually available in a book fair. A book fair usually remains crowded. People from all walks of life visit the fair. People who are book lovers come to the fair to buy books and to enjoy the fair. Young boys and girls gather here to find out books of their favorite authors. They buy books to present their near and dear ones and for themselves. From the interest and participation of people, the popularity of book fair in our country can be realized. A book fair bears great importance. It creates a sense of interest for books among the general people. It is really an exceptional place. It facilitates our reading habits, and thus, makes us enlightened. It also helps develop our creativity.

বইমেলা হলো এক ধরনের মেলা যেখানে বিক্রির জন্য বিভিন্ন ধরনের বই প্রদর্শিত হয়। আমাদের দেশে বইমেলা খুবই জনপ্রিয়। এটি এখন প্রতিটি নগরে এবং শহরে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। মানুষ মেলায় যায় তাদের পছন্দের বই খুঁজে পেতে। বাংলাদেশে ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি, ১৬ ডিসেম্বর, ২৬ মার্চ এবং বাংলা নববর্ষ উপলক্ষে বইমেলার আয়োজন করা হয়। খোলা জায়গায় বা অডিটোরিয়ামে বা বড় হলরুমে মেলা বসে। আমাদের দেশে বাংলা একাডেমি প্রাঙ্গণে ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি উপলক্ষে অনুষ্ঠিত হয় সবচেয়ে বড় বইমেলা। বইমেলায় সাধারণত গল্প, নাটক, কবিতা, উপন্যাস, জীবনী, অনুবাদ, শিশু সাহিত্য, গল্পের বই ইত্যাদি সব ধরনের বই পাওয়া যায়'। বইমেলা সাধারণত জনাকীর্ণ থাকে। সর্বস্তরের মানুষ মেলায় যায়। বইপ্রেমী মানুষ বই কিনতে ও মেলা উপভোগ করতে মেলায় আসে। তরুণ ছেলে-মেয়েরা তাদের প্রিয় লেখকের বই খুঁজে পেতে এখানে জড়ো হয়। তারা তাদের কাছের এবং প্রিয়জনকে উপহার দেওয়ার জন্য এবং নিজের জন্য বই ক্রয় করে। মানুষের আগ্রহ ও অংশগ্রহণ থেকেই আমাদের দেশে বইমেলার জনপ্রিয়তা অনুধাবন করা যায়। বইমেলা অনেক গুরুত্ব বহন করে। এতে সাধারণ মানুষের মধ্যে বইয়ের প্রতি আগ্রহ সৃষ্টি হয়। এটা সত্যিই একটি ব্যতিক্রমী জায়গা। এটি আমাদের পড়ার অভ্যাসকে উদ্বুদ্ধ করে, এবং এইভাবে আমাদেরকে আলোকিত করে তোলে। এটি আমাদের সৃজনশীলতা বিকাশে সহায়তা করে।
