Globalization

The word 'globalization' is being used to mean that the world has become a smaller place where distances between people and countries are being overcome through technology. It is, basically, a process of expanding trade and commerce all over the world by creating a border-less market. However, it is creating more opportunities for capitalist countries rather than for the developing ones. In the name of help and co-operation, the industrially developed capitalist countries are exploiting the cheap labor available in poor countries. This is the common fear about the adverse effects of globalization in the countries like ours. But, the fear is not quite justified because globalization has also a far-reaching effect on many aspects of life. With the development of hi-tech communications, media and rapid transportation facilities the world come closer. We can share our joys and sorrows like next door neighbors with other countries. Globalization also brings all types of different customs and behavior into our homes through satellite television channels and the internet. So, we can enrich our local culture through constant interaction of different cultures but, along with this, the cultural assault can also be resisted by the strength of our own traditional social values, beliefs and attitudes.

পৃথিবীর স্থান সংকোচনকে বোঝাতে 'বিশ্বায়ন' শব্দটি ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে, সেখানে মানুষ এবং দেশের মধ্যকার দূরত্ব প্রযুক্তির কল্যাণে পরাভূত হয়েছে। এটা হচ্ছে মূলত সীমানাবিহীন বাজার সৃষ্টির মাধ্যমে সারা বিশ্বে ব্যবসায়-বাণিজ্য প্রসারিত করার পদ্ধতি। বস্তুত, এটি উন্নয়নশীল দেশের তুলনায় পুঁজিবাদী দেশের জন্য বেশি সুযোগ সৃষ্টি করছে। সাহায্য সহযোগিতার নামে শিল্পগতভাবে উন্নত পুঁজিবাদী দেশগুলো গরিব দেশগুলোর সস্তা শ্রমিকদের শোষণ করছে। আমাদের মতো দেশের জন্য বিশ্বায়নের বিরূপ প্রভাব সম্পর্কে একটি সাধারণ ভীতির মধ্যে এটি একটি। কিন্তু এ ভীতিকে পুরোপুরি বিবেচনায় নেওয়া হয়নি কারণ আমাদের জীবনের বিভিন্ন ক্ষেত্রে বিশ্বায়নের একটি সুদূরপ্রসারি প্রভাব রয়েছে। উচ্চ যোগাযোগ প্রযুক্তি ব্যবস্থার উন্নতির সাথে সাথে বিশ্ব খুব সন্নিকটে চলে আসছে। অন্য দেশের সাথে আমরা প্রতিবেশীর মতো আনন্দ-দুঃখ ভাগাভাগি করতে পারি। স্যাটেলাইট টেলিভিশন এবং ইন্টানেটের মাধ্যমে বিশ্বায়ন বিভিন্ন ধরনের প্রথা এবং আচরণ আমাদের ঘরে নিয়ে আসে। ডাই বিভিন্ন ধরনের সংস্কৃতির সংমিশ্রণের মাধ্যমে আমরা আমাদের স্থানীয় সংস্কৃতিকে সমৃদ্ধ করতে পারি। কিন্তু এর সাথে সাথে আমাদের ঐতিহ্যবাহী সামাজিক মূল্যবোধ, বিশ্বাস ও মনোভাবের মাধ্যমে সাংস্কৃতিক বিপর্যয়কে প্রতিরোধ করা যায়।
