Causes of flood: There are many causes of flood. They are heavy rainfall, tidal waves, terrible storm, earthquakes, snow melt, etc. We generally think that flood is a curse of God. Human beings, cattle and other domestic animals pass their days with unlimited (সীমাহীন) sufferings. Many people are rendered homeless. The people suffer for lack of pure drinking water. The roads go under water and all the communications are suspended. People take shelter on the high roads, schools and colleges.

After effects of flood: After effects of flood are very dangerous. People don't get pure drinking water. So various kinds of water-borne diseases like cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid break out in an epidemic form in flood affected areas. As a result, many people die of them. Famine also breaks out in those areas. Prices of daily necessaries go highly up. The farmers face new problem due to the
destruction (বিনাশ) of the cattle. Good effects of flood: There are some good effects of flood. It brings silt and makes the land fertile.

Flood in Bangladesh: Flood in Bangladesh brings a terrible misfortune. The people of Bangladesh can't forget the terrible floods that occurred in 1954, 1955, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1970, 1974, 1980, 1984, 1987, 1988 and 1998. The flood of 1988 was dangerous. The century's worst and dangerous flood occurred in 1998. It lasted for more than two months. The whole country went under water and standing crops were damaged. But the people and the government faced this calamity with patience and courage.

Conclusion: Flood is a national problem of Bangladesh. So, our government should take permanent steps to minimize losses caused by flood.
